How Do I Get Turmeric Seed?
The right variety plays a big part in the eventual yield that you get from your hard work; but, also, the type of planting stock that you have makes a big difference.
The Two Main Ways to Grow Turmeric
- Root Rhizomes
- Mothers (Crown Rhizomes)
Tuber Rhizomes are similar to the tumeric that you buy in the store. And we've done that.
Most of our Turmeric is grown this way, however, you want to make sure that you have good quality seed. Turmeric takes 4-6 weeks to sprout from tubers.
Mothers are the Crown Rhizomes of the Tumeric plant. When you dig them, they are the middle section of the plant, and thus have lots of energy and sprout with more energy the next year. If you have the money, they are worth the investment. They are easier and more certain for establishment.
